…and here’s the other half.

Small Oil Painting of Grapefruit

Here is a grapefruit. I’m submitting this to the Daily Paintworks “Yellow” challenge. When I was in kindergarten my teacher asked us to think of our favorite color. I whispered to the girl next to me that mine was red, but then the teacher told us not to tell anyone, so I changed mine to yellow :). When I was a little older mom wallpapered my room in beautiful yellow roses. I still change my mind about my favorite these days, but I love the effects of light on every color.

Poor Holly is sick again today, and Meredith is hoping she’ll catch it so she can miss school. Summer vacation will be here soon.

Oil Painting of an Iris in a Jar

Trying to channel a little Van Gogh here. I applied the paint more thickly, with more pronounced strokes. I’ve had a book on Van Gogh’s flowers out of the library for many weeks – it’s due today, and I can’t renew it anymore. Mom and Dad sent an amazing bouquet of irises and lilies, just perfect. Thanks!

We’re back from a very quick trip to Michigan. I took many pictures of the beautiful fields and clouds around my parents house. The weather was nice – we picked and froze sweet corn. Hope to go back again soon.

The girls and I painted this orchid plant before our trip. Meredith inspired me to try a bright yellow background.
