Oil painting of a hammock

A few weeks ago we traveled to this beautiful spot in Upper Michigan at the invitation of our good friends. Big Bay de Noc is gorgeous – what a great trip. I’m reading Richard Schmid’s Alla Prima right now – I was aiming for bold strokes and broken color.

Check out David Westerfield’s blog! He just won awards for some beautiful plein air paintings at an event near Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan.

This is what that hammock in Bay de Noc looked like more often:

Looks great Deb! We have visited friends on Little Bay de Noc. I need to get back up there to paint. I’ve also been through Alla Prima a couple of times, great book. And thanks for the mention, I had a good weekend up there.

Beautifully done! I’m reading Schmidt’s book right now too… great information and something to strive for but so far I’m not getting it to translate to my work!
