Oil Painting of Lake Glenview

Posted on Updated on

8 by 8 inches, oil on hardboard

How about that? Posting twice in one day here. Last summer vacation was full of fun activities with the girls, and not as much painting. Holly is at her last day of preschool mini camp, so I’m making use of the time :).

Those familiar with Glenview know that until 1995 a naval air station operated here. When it closed, the land was redeveloped as The Glen, with residential and shopping areas and a large park. Lake Glenview is part of the park, and while I tried to keep detail to a minimum and focus on massing large, simple shapes, you might notice the control tower and a bit of Hanger 1 on the horizon, which were preserved as historic buildings.

This is so peaceful. I remember being in grade school and going on a field trip to the naval air base and being allowed in the control tower. Very cool!

That’s awesome! I wish we could go into the control tower now. I guess I’d have to ask Von Maur management.
