Oil Sketches of an Apple

6 inches square, oil on gessoed hardboard

SPRING BREAK! Whoo hoo! We took a fun trip to see family in Michigan. Sadly, our visit was cut short by stomach flu. Holly seems kind of sick again today, but hopefully she’s getting over it.

I did these sketches this afternoon with bright sun shining in the art room window. I didn’t feel so inspired by this apple when I started, but as I looked at it and painted it, it became fascinating. That’s one of the things I love about painting. It wakes me up to the intricacy and beauty of the ordinary.
