Value Study in Oil: the Cottage

Posted on Updated on

6 by 10 inches, oil on illustration board

I just posted this to the Daily Paintworks Value Challenge. It’s painted in four shades of gray, from our summer vacation photos. Grandma spends two weeks at a cottage on Green Lake, and we were lucky enough to visit over the hottest days of the summer. Painting this I felt like I was almost there. It’s chilly here today! We even pulled out the girls’ mittens and my wool socks. These value studies are good practice for massing simple shapes. Working in black and white makes it easier for me to see what’s going wrong.
