Red Leaf

Holly doesn’t pay much attention to the subject I’m painting, she just does her own thing. We ended up using similar colors today, though.

I could not stop fussing with this. I tried adding impasto with a painting knife, and then ended up scraping and brushing most of it off. The red I use (alizarin crimson) is transparent. Getting bright, rich reds in different values is a real challenge for me. I remember struggling with it in Apple and Twig, too. The light was glowing through the leaf into the shadow here.

Love this leaf, it is beautiful! Will have to look back at it when the snow comes
